Boostcamp gives you a library of established strength programmes and runs them for you. That is genuinely useful — most people are better served by following a proven template than by writing their own — and the programmes in it are real programmes with track records. The catch for a hybrid athlete is that every one of them was written for a lifter, and running one alongside four endurance sessions a week means running it under conditions its author did not assume.

Which templates survive endurance volume best

Not a Boostcamp criticism — this is useful regardless of what runs your programme.

Good fits:

  • 5/3/1 variants. Modest main-lift volume, explicitly adjustable assistance work, and a built-in deload. Probably the most hybrid-friendly established template there is.
  • Upper/lower four-day splits. Twice-weekly frequency per muscle, three days clear, lower-body days spaceable away from hard running.
  • Full-body two or three days. The right answer during a race block.

Poor fits:

  • Six-day push/pull/legs. Almost no room left for endurance work, and two lower-body days plus running is a lot of legs.
  • High-frequency squat programmes. Squatting four times a week and running is a specific way to find out about your knees.
  • Anything with a lot of conditioning built in. You already have conditioning; adding the programme's on top double-counts.

Deloads: scheduled versus reactive

Most templates schedule a deload — every fourth week, or at the end of a cycle. That is reasonable for a lifter with a stable weekly load.

It is less reasonable when a second training stress is varying underneath it. The 2024 survey of strength and physique athletes has them deloading every 5.6 weeks give or take 2.3, and that variance is the point: a fixed schedule is roughly two weeks wrong in one direction or the other for most people most of the time.
